On the Don Juan Coffee Tour you will not just learn about coffee farming, but also about chocolate and sugar cane production. At the end, take a ride in a typical ox cart and experience the real native Costa Rican life!
Tour takes place on a farm about 2 km outside of Santa Elena.
The coffee tour lasts two hours and involves a half kilometer walk along an easy trail. You will learn about the history, cultivation, and operation of a coffee 'beneficio'.
At the end of the tour you will learn more about the production of chocolate (30min.) and sugar cane (15min.). You can participate in the making process and finally taste what you have produced!
Tour starts at: 8:00 am, 10:00 am, 1:00 pm, and 3:00 pm (duration of approxmately 3 hours)
Prices: $30 for adults and $12 for kids (6 – 12 years). Price includes transportation from the hostel, refreshments, and snacks.

Don Juan Coffee Tour

The Monteverde Trapiche tour is run by a local family whose mission is to teach not only about sugar cane but also a little more about Costa Rican culture.
The bilingual guide will walk with you through their small forest, pick coffee if possible, and take you on an ox-cart ride back to the main building. A unique Costa Rican experience! You will also get a chance to make your own candy out of sugar cane.
Tour takes place on a farm located two kilometers outside of Santa Elena. The two hour tour involves a walk along an easy trail with a bilingual guide and at the end of the tour you get a chance to sample some local snacks.
Tour starts at 10:00 am and 3:00 pm (duration of approx. 3 hours)
Prices: $32 for adults and $12 for kids (6 - 12 years). Price includes transportation, refreshments and snacks, umbrella or ponchos (just in case!)
