Tour Information

  • This is a 2,5 hour ride (organized by Horse Trek) through the scenic countryside near Monteverde.  It is a perfect getaway from a hectic tour schedule and offers seldom seen glimpses of rural Tico life. Guests are frequently able to spot wildlife and the pace is leisurely enough that it’s an excellent ride for kids.

  • A relaxed horseback ride, this trip is perfect for beginners or more experienced riders looking for a shorter trip they can do in the morning or afternoon. Your guide will take you along quiet back roads, past banana, sugar  and coffee plantations while sharing information about the local area and its customs.

  • The tour is suitable for Kids over 6 years old and must ride on their own horses. Children's saddles and helmets are available. Rain ponchos (if necessary!) are provided. The ride is fully insured and only experienced guides are used.

  • Tour starts at: 8:00am, 9:00am, 10:00am, 11:00am, 12:00pm, 1:00pm, 2:45pm or as sunset ride.

  • Price: $49 per person

Mountain and Farm View Horseback Ride

  • Panoramic views of spectacular ranch land, coffee fields, cloud forests and, in the distance, the shimmering Gulf of Nicoya are all highlights of this tour organized by Horse Trek Monteverde.

  • This half day horseback ride tour takes you through scenic landscapes and up to the continental divide where the view will leave you breathless.

  • Suitable for riders of 12 and older. With 4 hours of riding time, this ride is not for the true novice, but those with some riding experience will find it manageable.

  • Tour Time: 4 hours either morning or afternoon.

  • Price: $60 per person includes transportation and ponchos (just in case it rains)

Horseback Ride in the Clouds

Tour Information

  • A full day of horseback riding (organized by Horse Trek) through Monteverde along a forest banked river and a stop at a local watering hole for a well-deserved drink!

  • Once mounted up your guide will ride with you along picturesque back roads through Monteverde’s agricultural heartland where commerce and tradition mingle. As you ride keep your eyes peeled for sloths and toucans and enjoy learning about the rich cultural heritage of the area and the coffee, banana and sugar crops grown in the area.

  • Suitable for riders with moderate experience. The day includes approximately 5 hours in the saddle so a reasonable degree of fitness and comfort are required.

  • Tour starts at 7:00am and lasts approximately 6 hours.

  • Price: $85 includes transport and a picnic lunch at the river.
